Setup with 3 monitors - MAX UI / DPI scaling issue

I'm using 3 monitors, two of them are 2560x1440 and my main screen is 4K.

Because of this, Max is having some glitches like panels in weird places, Corona color picker not working properly, dropdown menus not in the right place etc...

The default scaling settings (right click on desktop > display properties > scale)  are:
  • screen 1 = 150% dpi scaling
  • screen 2 & 3 = 100%
  • according to windows, these are the "recommended" settings

The reply from Autodesk is this:

"It is a known issue with 3ds Max that you cannot use it across multiple screens at different resolutions.

They must all match.

Technical support do not have access to the development team fix or release schedule.

Please adjust your workflow accordingly"

So, after setting all monitors to 125% the problem looks solved. Color picker is working and no more floating panels, glitches, ...

BUT: The drawback is that all other programs (email, web browser, windows explorer, desktop,...) have a different scaling on monitor 1 vs 2 & 3. The previous settings would be better in that case...

I also found this on the Corona Render forum:

"The only remaining scaling issue is with different scaling across multi-monitor setup, but even then, the only software I ever had issue with was... 3ds Max :- )."

Is there a solution to this problem other than setting the scaling for all monitors the same?

There are a few similar forum posts (some going back to ca. 2018), but it's a bit frustrating that in 2025 3dsMax is still not able to do this...

Hi @infoMB4RT ,

Thanks for bringing this conversation to the forums. I don't know of a solution to this, but i do know many older apps struggle with this issue on multiple monitors. There is an overall effort to modernize the 3ds Max user interface, so i will tag @Libei.Wang here in the hopes that this can help the teams efforts!

I would look at non-3ds Max UI scaling issues for the time being, you aren't the first, or last one to struggle with software behaving differently on multiple monitors. Perhaps this thread will help? I'm hopeful that someone else on the forums have found a potential solution as well.

I hope this doesn't delay any of your projects, and i hope you have a delightful week!

Warm regards,

Well, it's disappointing there is no solution yet. The post you are referring to is 9 (!) years old, and is not offering a solution other than setting the scaling in Windows (which is what I did). It's even more disappointing because other software is able to tackle this problem. If I'm not the first or last to struggle with this, you would think it would have been addressed by Autodesk or would be on a roadmap for the future. I think most people working with 3dsMax are at least working with two screens. So I can imagine a lot of people would benefit from a solution.

Hello, I would like to check this again.

Is this problem solved in the last release (2026)?
