Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for bringing your question to the forums, it looks like you are visiting as a new member to the 3DS Max forum. I want to extend a warm welcome to the Autodesk Community!

Thanks for posting your CER report number! I was able to look it up in our database, but it doesn't seem to have many details attached to the issue. What version of 3DS Max are you running? Can you explain what you were doing in Max when the crash happened? Extruding geometry, opening up a UI dialogue, rendering with a specific engine?

I look forward to helping you with this error report 😄

Hi @Anonymous

I wanted to check back and see if you got a chance to look into the suggestions I made in my previous post? It would be super helpful if you could add a post with how you decide to proceed, and your results. That way other Community members can benefit from your process 😄

Hi @Anonymous

I was able to extract a few more details, and see that this is related to element snapping in editable poly. I also see that it was resolved for 3ds Max 2018, and I see that you reported this with 3ds Max 2017. Have you had a chance to check out a more recent version?

Many thanks for the quick feedback.
yes I also noticed that there are significant problems in this context,
but I could not solve it so far. I still use 3D Max 2017 Student Version and i don`t know if i just can just update to a higher Version with the same license i have . Max is crashing all the way long from the nothing while modeling. Question is what i can do because reinstalling not worked Best Greetings ;)

Hi @a.mahn @Anonymous

I'm pretty sure you can upgrade to a newer version of Max as long as you input your information again, its worth a shot, 3DS Max 2018 and 2019 have some pretty awesome new features!! Here is the link to start that process.

Does the crash happen no matter what camera view you are in, or does the snapping only crash Max when you are in an orthographic viewport?

I have been reading through this thread of folks that have had this same issue with Max 2017 and it looks like updating to Service pack 3, and updating your graphics drivers may prove helpful.

Talk to you soon 😄

Hi @a.mahn

Looking forward to seeing if the upgrade solves the issue! When opening a Max 2018 file with Max 2019, your modifier stack on your objects will come into the new version of Max as well. But it won't work by default going back from 2019 into 2018, there are extra steps involved exporting meshes for backward compatibility in the software.

Let me know if there is any further issues in regards to the crashing!

Hi @a.mahn

Thanks for the additional information! This is a known issue for some folks when they use the snap tools in Max 2017. Development has fixed this issue in Max 2018 and 2019 versions of the software.

The fix for this issue doesn't look like it made its way into developments schedule to put into Max 2017, so the best solution that I have for you is to download Max 2018 or 2019. Have you gotten a chance to test out modeling and snapping tools in Max 2019 yet?
