Scripts are missing after closing 3ds max

Hi, I installed the 3ds Max on my pc, but there is a problem, all the scripts that I install work normally until I close the software, as soon as I re-open the software, all the scripts are missing and I have to reinstall them again. I searched a lot about this issue but I didn't find any solution. I would appreciate it if someone can assist me with this problem.

Hey everyone, I'm sorry to hear you're dealing with this. I'm tracking this issue to try and find a solution for a couple users.

I'm Colin, I wrote Relink Bitmaps and am tracking this issue. I'd like to make sure other users don't run into this issue, I've worked with a user to try and figure this out and was unable to reproduce this.

Thanks!

Hey Colin thanks for the work you do on this script!

Was wondering if you ever thought of adding a renaming file name feature?

Good question. I have plenty actually. My general philosophy with tools is I want to create sharp tools that have one job and does it well.

I personally use other maxscripts to rename/collect maps to do these types of things myself. I would imagine functionality like that would better be suited for a specific tool for that purpose, something I would gladly write if needed. 🙂

Hope that helps.

I wish I had an answer for how to fix this specifically with Relink Bitmaps. The user I worked with to try and solve this today was using a custom `maxstart.max` file and I wonder if anyone else having the issue is also running a custom file?

Ahh I see. Was just looking for something like what project manager does in that regard with fixing paths and renaming files.

I have this issue also with other scripts (macroscripts)... also with max 2023.3
there's still no solution for me.

ok, I have found out, that the /* command in the scripts is a problem... if you replace all the lines of text with "-- " the the scripts will load normally... maybe this helps other people to get rid of this annoying behavior.

happy working!

Hi, just take the macros folder and put it somewhere that does not have a users folder in the path (i create a folder -3ds Max- just in the C drive ). It will work. The problem is when you have a user (even if its the admin) in the path. Change the max macros folder to see the new one and it should be ok.

Hi, thanks for the update.

I've been saving customisation files locally too. I never use the Set Project window, because that's more for home users. Recently windows paths have been getting more and more inaccessible without "Administrator" level access to the windows file system. Be it windows 10 or 11. It is creating problems the way 3dsmax's installation defaults point towards folders that have reduced access to common or garden users.

Always set up your custom project paths. Per project. Use your own system, not ADSKs failing one, as set by default.

I have been complaining about this for about a year and I have yet to have a solution. Is Windows 11 the common denominator? Do you have V-Ray installed?

Thanx, I will start organizing projects a bit different as i start seeing "problems" as you mentioned. The weird thing is that because it's my personal computer and I am the "administrator" let's say, i wasn't expecting problems of that kind...probably it's how max understands user paths in general now...

I did this and it worked for me (3DS 2024):
1- Go to the ENU folder.
2- Copy the whole "usermacros" folder and place it in your "Documents" folder for instance (the C: location didn't work for me).
3- In 3DS, Customize/Configure users and project paths, relink both "additional scripts" and "additional macros" to that copied "usermacros" folder that is now under "Documents"
4- Boom!
