Saving the file first time after importing a .3ds file

I just exported a big sketchup file to .3ds and then imported it into 3ds max 2016 educational version. Everything was fine until I tried saving it for the first time. It is taking so long and finally it goes to not responding and then I have to just force close tha app and restart it with the hope of saving it this time. I can't get started with my work with this saving speed.

Suggest me something if I amdoing something wrong or is it the software and the computer because I am sure it's not the machine as we have Z220 in out computer rooms.

Thanks

I am almost sure the 3ds file imported is too big for your pc (ram & CPU) to save it as a max file.

Things can get nasty when exporting from Sketchup (big file) to 3ds and then getting into Max. I would say, unless you have 16/32 ram installed at least a quadcore and Penthium i7 you limit reduces to 500 mb file, If you got something like the spects already mentioned, then you can save files over 1000 mb with no problems.

Perhaps you can spread the Sketchup file into some smaller 3ds files then use them separately in Max if your pc/spects cannot handle such big 3ds file.

Normally Sketchup uses/create smaller 3d files than Max. (long explanation if you want to know why).

Good luck, Eric
