Save Render Presets - Render Elements category missing

We recently upgraded the studio to Max 2019 (from 2015), and today we discovered that in the load and save Render Presets dialog, that the Render Elements category is missing!  We commonly load just the Render Element settings out of our library of render presets, and now this appears to be broken?  Are we doing something wrong, or has this feature been removed?  Through our testing, it appears that the Render Elements are now included in the Common category.  This will not work for us because we render and many different resolutions and I don't want to have the settings in the Common tab disturbed when loading in Render Presets.

HELP!

Ray

Hello @Anonymous

Thanks for bringing your question to the forums! What rendering engine are you using? If you are using Arnold, I believe render elements are handled as AOV's, here is some documentation on AOV's.

It looks like the render elements tab is still separate from the common settings in Scanline!

Can I ask for a screenshot of your render settings and where you are navigating to in order to load your libraries settings?

I look forward to chatting with you further about this!

Here are three screen shots of the Select Preset Categories dialog, with the renderer set to VRay Next, Scanline, and ART.  All three of them are missing a Render Elements category.  I'm running 2019.1 Update (21.1.0.1314)

As a followup, here's what the dialog looks like in Max 2015 with VRay 3.6

Hi,

It's still there,

The correct steps to save and load the presets should be like this:

1- Press F10, adjust the render settings the way you like,

Then go to the Preset drop-down menu and from the menu choose Save Presets ...

2- A dialog will open, save your preset

3- A small dialog will open so you can choose the categories you want to include(among them is Render Elements)

In the preset. Choose the ones you like and click Save and that's it.

To load your preset you need to use the Preset drop-down menu mentioned in step 1, and click Load Preset...

The categories you've chosen are all there. I created a test preset with 3 categories, I included

The Render Elements among them. The picture below shows the loading process

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for the additional information! It looks like @miledrizk had a suggestion that could provide some additional insight, let me know when you get a chance to revisit this and if you found Mileds' suggestion helpful!

From my understanding, it looks like the category named "render elements" isn't appearing for you, but if that's the case, wouldn't you be able to still save any preset into another category? Or is the issue that your script already points to "render elements" preset and you would have to change it?

I'm not able to test Vray settings on my machine currently, my suggestion would be to look through the Vray render elements documentation, and try contacting Chaosgroup support if you aren't finding a tool in Vray that you need.

Thanks for being so patient and easy to work with on this issue, I look forward to hearing back!

miledrizk, I guess I don't understand what part of your comment is a suggestion for what I need to do.  It looks like you are describing the exact steps I'm already doing, excepting the part where I don't see "Render Elements" listed in the category list.  Please see my post and the screen captures I posted where I show the category list that I'm seeing when I do a Save Preset.

@hagen.deloss, Thanks for the reply, but I don't understand your comment:  "wouldn't you be able to still save any preset into another category?"  Render Presets are not saved INTO a category, rather a Render Preset is made up of categories.  @miledrizk posted the steps to save a render preset, but this is not helpful because this is exactly what I am already doing.  In Max 2019.1  (21.1.0.1314), I don't see the Render Elements category in the Select Preset Categories dialog with either Saving or Loading.  It's not there in Scanline, it's not there in ART, it's not there in VRay, it's not there in Quicksilver.  Arnold does not seem to have a Render Elements tab...

I don't have a copy of 2019.0 to test, but the Render Elements is present in 2018, as well as 2016, 2015, etc.  I've checked with all of my artists, and no one has a Render Elements category in their Max 2019.1.

I didn't pay too much attention to the version,

Didn't occur to me that this feature might be unavailable in the newer version for any reason.

I'm using Max 2018.4 so yeah maybe there is an issue with the 2019 version. sorry!
