rendering problem

hi. im new to 3ds max. can someone please tell me what is wrong with my model. im using mental ray. why is the file so big for a room so small and is taking forever to render. pleaseee help me

because everything has to be calculated and then rendered, from the models to the lighting etc it all depends on what setting you are using in MR if you're using global illumination and final gather.

 

the more stuff you have in your scene the more stuff max has to calculate

 

there are no shadows in your room the big does not look like it's got a bottom to it

Hello @Anonymous and welcome to the community,

 

The size of the room doesn't have a huge impact on how long it takes to render, the complication of the models, textures, materials, and effects can.  Often an outdoor scene renders much faster than an indoor scene despite being bigger because rays eventually bounce out into infinity.  

 

Lighting and rendering is a really big topic and almost impossible to cover everything in a forum post.  My best suggestion is to do some of the lighting and rendering tutorials and learn a bit more about what is going on.  @irishman_team_kilber is right though, you have no shadows.  Usually you can just turn them on in the light settings.
