This might take a little explaining, ill try to be short.
Generally, after a 3ds max update, a windows update, or a vray update when I go to render a scene I will get a black result. It does this with brand new scenes, it does it with old scenes ect. If i look at the vray log it says
"Error:: Error building Embree static ray caster, error message: [CommitEmbreeThread::threadProc] 1: Commiting scene failed"
The solution I have found online for this (and it seems to work everytime) is to download the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and restart my system. After that, everything works as it should but, again, any windows update, 3ds max update or vray update causes the issue to come back. This has been going on for years on my system and my co workers systems.
It is worth noting that when it comes to Arnold, there is no issue with this. I'm going to post this question on the chaos forums as well as I believe its primarily a Vray issue, however it does seem to be related to 3ds max as well given that even a simple max update or windows update triggers the errors.
