Product Viewer Renders With Transparent Background

Hi guys, I am basically trying to get some 3D renders of products to go on a 360° web viewer app on my website. My problem is, how do I set up mental ray lighting so that I can get all the detailed reflections etc without having other objects to reflect off? I'm a bit of a rookie when it comes to lighting.

 

I have attached a couple screenshots of the example product thats in the product viewer software. I'm fine to light a realistic scene normally, but now I have to render 100 or so images of different angles i'm stuck. As the camera will be rotated under the product and above the product, I cant use a standard white plane for the product to sit on.

 

Is it possible to render JUST the product as PNG outputs with a nice amount of lighting and detail?

You can create 'bounce cards' to generate reflections on your object.  These are usually just white planes, possibly self illuminated.  However, since you don't want to see them you'll have to go into the Object Properties and uncheck 'Visible to Camera'.  They won't render, but they will still appear in reflections on your materials.

Hello @Anonymous and welcome to the community,

 

Did the helpful post by @CAMedeck resolve this issue for you?  He's totally correct that bounce cards and reflection aids are commonly used for renderings like this one.  

 

I would suggest though that you don't rotate the camera all over the scene, but instead rotate the object.  This is better because modern rendering engines use physically accurate shaders for lighting.  You'll want to keep a consistent angle between the camera to target and the lights in order to get proper looking highlights and reflections.  If the camera is moving those highlights will move around which would be a bit distracting.  However if the camera was stationary and the object moved around, you'd always have highlights in the same general place.
