Problem with Unwrap UVW

Hi All,

I am trying to do a flatten map kind of texture on a model. I have added the .jpg no problem but when I go into the Edit UVWs dialog the map #1 which is my map just shows up black which makes it very hard to put it in the right place!

Can anyone help?

Regards,

Amy

you should pick your texture on edit uvws ( checkerPattern (checker) )

Hi @Anonymous

I have followed your tutorial but the map is showing as black in the edit UVWs dialogue box 😞 I made the .jpg in photoshop, could that be affecting it?

@Anonymousin your UV editor, up top right,

Next to the UV icon, click the cogwheel, in Display pref, I bet the Tile Brightness is 0.0......crank it up to 1.0 voila...

(if that's too harsh on the eyes, try 0.5)

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for replying, sadly that is not the case 😞 I just checked the tile brightness and it was 0.5, I turned it up to one but it is still showing black. Could it be how I have added the texture?

I have put it in using the materials editor (the big one) then I just added a unwrap UVW modifier.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I have attached the file underneath.

Amy

ok Amy, will take a look soon...i'll test it with any old image...if i can't pin down the error, i might have to ask you for access to your texture file if possible.

Have you tested on another image ? Just any random image you want, is it always black ?

ok, here's what I got...looks healthy to me !!

test_UV.jpg

Next, could be that your texture is the culprit, if you can't upload your texture, what about just crop a little section of it for me to test ? or PM me.

Or let me guess, you've moved your texture off somewhere....the path says Desktop blah blah but have you moved it somewhere else inadvertently ?

ok @Anonymous...here's the solution...bring up the options dialog (top right, next to UV)

01) so you've set you Tile Brightness to 0.5 (or 1.0...whatever you like)

02) your image (Whole Map) is still black...why ? because it's GINORMOUS !!!

03) Tick on Use Custom Bitmap Size (you could argue it is a bit misleading what it suggests here), anyway, it means now it has displayed the image as 256x256 and therefore it shows up !!!

04) Now try this, increase both the Height and Width to 9999, you'll see that it tops out at 2048...so that's the limit (ok, there may be a limit setting somewhere in Prefs but let's not complicate things...just stay in here). So now that we know the limits....if you check it against your Whole Image which is 18671 x 5036...wellllllllll.....

So if you untick Use Custom Bitmap Size, it goes back to black coz it can't cope trying to display an 18671 x 5036 image.

05) so tick Use Custom Bitmap Size, with 2048 x 552 as Width and Height for your map...
