problem in patch deform

hi

i have problem/question about patch and patch deform and edit patch modifier

i tried to use patch deform and i faced to illegal patch error

after some search i found the problem causes is that my patch is a tri-patch

now i have 2 question

first is why tri-patch cant been in use ?

the second is every time i use edit patch or turn to patch modifier for edit poly or anything else , it turns my poly or etc to tri patch

how can i turn a tri-patch to quad patch ? why the modifier turns the poly and the others to a tri-patch ? why not quad patch ?

its so necessary for me

Hello @Anonymous and welcome to the community,

I haven't used Patch tools much, but from my simple test it's working even with a poly object converted to patch.  Which version of 3ds Max are you on?  Is there a file you could share with me, please?  I can create a private folder if you'd like.  Maybe the issue is specific to your model.  I've attached my test file here, does it work on your system?  Did I set it up wrong?  Thanks for the info!
