Pflow Particles invisible in viewport but not render after max 2018.1 update

Hi!

After installing the 3ds max 2018.1 update pflow particles are completely invisible in my viewport? They do show up when I press render though.

This seems to happen with particle system coming from older max files. Because when I create a new system from scratch they show up in the viewport.

But trying to use one of the presets flows that ships with 3ds max is not working. It worked fine before installeing the update 2018.1.

Is this something that is only happening on my computers or does anyone else have this problem?

Hello @Kennet3design and welcome to the community,

Some of the necessary updates to QT in 2018 caused this problem to appear.  There is an easy fix though, image details below.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

hello. this happened with me in max 2017 and now i just  checked max 2018.  i can see ticks or dots, but when i scrub past frame 3 the geometry displayed disappears.

i tried what you said - did a new empty flow, then deleted the first PF Source 001 and hooked up the new PF Source 002 to Event 001.  nada.  maybe i'm not connecting it properly?

thanks

Hello @grue1970,

I have a logged issue for this when displaying with DX9.  It still renders properly but yes, the particles go to world center in the viewport in DX9.  If you want to stick with DX9 you can create a Mesher compound object and load the particle system into it, it'll display correctly.

oh boy.  i can think of another very good reason not to switch to dx11 - namely my other thread about back face lines being the same color as the viewport background. ugh!!!!

I had the same thought about your two issues combined @grue1970.  I've posted internally to find out more about that other issue.  Thanks for your patience.

SOOO - the fix for the DX11 back face line resolution has left me using DX11 and guess what?  all particles show!
