OSL shaders not working on render node.

Hi, I've experienced some problems when submitting a job to my rendernodes via backburner. After some research I narrowed it down to an OSL map (gabor_noise). When I added this map backburner started giving me the response 3dsmax adapter error: 3dsmax.exe process no response. (btw, I wish backburner/max would be a bit more specific sometimes).

 

I have 3dsmax 2019.1.1 on both my local machine and the render nodes. I also have the same version of V-ray 4. Why is it rendering on my local machine, and not on the render node?

 

I tried unlinking the OSL shader so it would be included in the file, but that didn't help either. Besides, the OSL file in question was preinstalled with Max 2019 and exists in the same folder on the render node machine.

I wanted to update you, I heard back from development and they are aware of this issue, and have fixed it, it will be included in a future update 😄

Thanks for keeping this thread up to date! It looks like the fix didn't make it into the final build of update 2! This has been resolved and will be included in a future update of the software.

Hello, we're experiencing the same issue with 3ds max 2019.2 and we can't update to .3 because that breaks the Shotgun integration, also we're mid project. Can we get the fix for .2 ?

Hi @Anonymous As far as I know, hotfixes for older updates require your companies account to have premium support entitlement. I will send you a private message to follow up on this.

Hi All,

We are using 3DS Max 2019.2 and we are unable to render any files in our render nodes where OSL material has been use. Is there any software patch or any alternative solution available on this ? Any response will be highly appreciated.

Hi @Anonymous 

 

This issue has been resolved in 3ds Max 2019 update 3 "When using an OSL Map, it would cause network rendering errors. MAXX-45619" according to these release notes.

 

The other two options are to either render locally, or replace the OSL shaders with alternative maps.

Hi Hagen,

 

Thank you for your quick response. We are downloading 3DS Max  2019.3 update. We are using "Deadline" as our render management software. Is 3DS Max 2019 update 3 will fix OSL texture material error when we send render jobs using Deadline render management software ?

I have solved problem for "osl material not render in render nodes". I don't know which one solve but I'm going to write my steps.

1) Create a "vrayosl" folder in "C/program files/autodesk/3dsmaxXXX" and put yor osl shader script in it

2) put yor osl shader script in "C/program files/autodesk/3dsmaxXXX/OSL"

3) Put your OSL texture maps in "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2020\maps" folder in your render boxx and your workstation. So ther will be two separate file but at least file path will be same and you can render.
