Old .Max file (grouped object causing crash)

Hello Autodesk,

I have an old .max file that crashes on open & merge.

I've tried merging individual elements and noticed that a grouped object crashes on import.

This applies in 3dsmax 2015, 2020, 2021 on multiple computers. I also reset my ENU prefs file.

Is there any work around? Maybe a deprecated plugin or feature? Can I merge elements within a grouped object?

If you are still having the problem I'll try it if you post it. Maybe I can open it and resave it for you.
