Normal bump node produces strange artifacts when combined with multi tile Node

So I have a simple scene of a monkey head that is unwrapped into 2 udims in blender and exported for texturing in substance painter. I applied a simple noise to the height channel and exported the normal maps. It looks totally fine in blender but when I import it to 3ds max and render it with arnold it looks like this:

monkey head messed up normals.jpg

monkey head messed up normals2.jpg

And this is my material setup:

How do I fix it?

The correct workflow is to connect the normal map to the normal bump and then connect that node to a bump2D node, where you also connect the bump map.

Also, check if you are loading the maps with the correct gamma of 1.0.

Why are you using the multitle in this instance? Is one of the map 1001 and the other 1002?

Thanks for the quick response!

I added the bump 2d node in between and reimported the maps with 1.0 gamma. But somehow it looks like the bump 2d node turned my normal map into a bump map and it doesn't look smooth:

Yes I have two normal maps labeled 1001 and 1002.

Can you send me that scene with the maps, please? Use the Archive option

Hello again. Did you find time to check the scene?

Sorry, busy with work and missed your message.

I saved the file for you to have a look at. A couple of things to keep in mind. When you load maps like Roughness, Normal, and Height, you need to use the gamma of 1.0.

Then you can also use the Image node from Arnold that will read the UDIMS or use the multile node

Initially, I thought you were trying to combine a normal and bump map. However, since both are normal maps you don't need the bump2D node.

Hope this helps.

Otherwise you are going to have issues.

That totally did it. Thank you so much for your time.

Looks like the Mirror Tile option in the bitmap was causing the problem, once i unchecked it everything started behaving normally.

Thanks again. Cheers!
