MaxtoA Plugin Problem - How Do I Clear Out Old Versions?

I had a problem back in February after an update to Max2021 whereby opening scenes with Xrefs caused a crash every time. I eventually fixed it by reverting to an older version of MaxtoA  (backed up from 4.3.1.0 to 4.0.6.3) - as far as I can remember I did this just by dragging an old version into the Plugins folder. Since then no problem, now running 4.2.1.4. Today I installed Max2022 and lo and behold the same problem has appeared with the added bonus of an Error code 127 when launching. I have followed the steps in this article https://tinyurl.com/5fxudjfr to try to fix the Error 127 but to no avail. I also tried updating MaxtoA in my 2021 installation and the same problem recurred. In the article it suggests that old versions of MaxtoA may cause the problem but I notice that if I uninstall all instances through the Windows control panel an old version mysteriously loads when I restart Max2021.  How can I thoroughly remove all old versions of MaxtoA and if I do will it fix the problem of Xref scenes crashing?

Thanks, William.

Have you tried installing the new version? 4.3.2.46?

There is a folder that you can delete as well

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins

What I do now, every time there is an update, is uninstall first and install the new version.

Ok, the 127 Error was a red herring caused by a plug in for my old Space Navigator; the real problem is the MaxtoA plug in. I tried many uninstalls an re installs yesterday and established that  MaxtoA versions up to 4.2.xxx work fine but if I install a 4.3.xxx then scenes with Xrefs crash on opening. This happens with Max 2021 and 2022. If I rebuild the scene from scratch xreffing in the same component scenes then it works fine. So there is something in my old scenes that MaxtoA versions 4.3.xxx on can't tolerate. This is bad news as I have hundreds of them and I regularly need to open, modify and re render them.

Ok, in that case, copy exactly what you have here and go to Arnold Answers. Tag Lee Griggs and Stephen Blair and they will be able to provide better support and help with that.

To wrap this up I posted the question on the Arnold Answers forum and this issue has been registered as a bug. The work round suggested by Solid Angle is to open scene in Max2021 with MtoA 4.2.1.4 > disable all the Xrefs > Save. The scene can then be opened in Max 2022 with MtoA 4.3.2.46 and will behave normally.

Thanks for the help, William.
