Maxscript error

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,  I have 3d Max 2016 with VRay 3.2.  When I launch Max, I get a Maxscript auto load error:  No ""getPropNames"" function for undefined.  I can still use the program and most of its tools.  However, I also get a another error when I attempt to create some of the Vray ligths (such as VRay sun, VRay IES, etc.).

I have attached an image showing the error I get when trying to create a VRay light.

How can I fix this?

 it roughly translates as:

I had the same problem that I couldn't solve.

1-Local disc C, go to the search bar and type "usemacros"

2-then open the file "usemacros" and ?????????????

3-then restart 3ds max 2016 and everything will function just right

the thing is that it doesn't make much sense and I'm facing the exact same issue, so if you got the solution, I'd love to read it!!!

Hello @Anonymous, @MPSCCXXXVII

The most common causes of this are:

1) Corrupted material libraries.  You can try to reinstall the material libraries to fix.

2) Issues with the plugin.  Reinstall is a good idea, but best bet is to install 3.4 as it has a lot of improvements over 3.2.  You can get it on Chaosgroups website.
3) Not on latest service pack, in conjunction with a plugin written to be expecting it.

There may be other reasons this can happen, but in your case, I would say 2 is the problem.  Should be no big deal to get the latest version.  You can test to see if this is the problem by uninstalling it and seeing if the errors persist.  If they do, you may have to run a repair on your 3ds Max installation.  If not, the problem is with this version of Vray and the latest version should be installed, or at least redownload 3.2 from their website.

Please hit the "Accept as Solution" button if my post fully solves your issue or answers your question. This lets me know that I was effective in helping you, and thank you for doing so.

hello Alfred.DeFlaminis.

the fact is that the problem first appeared with the 3.4 version of vray. After a couple of new installations, I tried the 3.2 version to see if it could fix the problem, with no luck at all...the errors appear only after the vray installations, in other words, no vray - no problem, but as you can imagine, vray is totally needed for various projects as a renderer, I wish I could rely only on mental and iray, but that's not the case.

I'm about to run a repair, as you suggesed, to see if that will work. I hope it will so I can press the  "Accept as Solution" button afterwards!

thanx for answering!!!

Hello @MPSCCXXXVII,

Always happy to help.  You might want to make sure you have all the service packs, but otherwise since we know it's a Vray issue it may be worth it to post on the chaosgroup forums.  I'm confident they can sort you out.  Best of luck!

Hello again Alfred.DeFlaminis, Just to let you know, repairing had no effect on the issue, so I do believe that I must contact Chaos Group in order to fix the problem, even so, if you or any of your colleagues stumble upon the solution, I'd be more than happy if it could be presented it to me as well.

best regards,

P.M.

Hello @MPSCCXXXVII,

There's only 1 thing left that *might* help on my end, so I'll list it here.  If that doesn't work, it's definitely related to plugins.  It may be that Vray *plus* another plugin are causing the issue.  (Grrr, right?)  Just thought I might mention it so you can rest assured.

Not really, in addition the whole thing makes Max crash, occasionally.

Hello @MPSCCXXXVII,

Yeah, I bet.  Was Chaosgroup unable to address it?  They have very good support, it's worth a shot if you haven't tried.  They can also give you access to nightly builds if you ask for it, which might include a fix for your particular problem.  I think there is nothing I or Autodesk could do in this situation as the problem is with the plugin.

Best Regards,
