Max main Dropdown Menus are offset with Windows Scaling (4k)

Our studio is in the midst of moving from Max 2018 to Max 2022.  I've been working in 2018 for years with the same setup, using two, 4k monitors, with the Windows text scaling set.  (150-175% depending on situations)

Max 2018 has been fine with this, but Max 2022 has an issue where the main menus are drawn offset to the right of where they should be.  The actual interactions still take place where the menu SHOULD be.  So If I click "Tools" I then see the tools menu to the far right of the screen, but things in the menu highlight as I move my mouse straight down, over the viewport.  So, it's usable for the left most menus, but Rendering, and Customize and such are drawn off screen entirely.

The amount of offset seems to depend on the scale set in Windows.  With Windows set to 150%, the menus will be closer to their original positions, and at 175% they will show up further to the right.  The offset is the same regardless of whether the window is maximized or not.  The offset is always in the same relative position, so if I de-maximize the window, and then move it toward the bottom of the screen, the offset menu shows up lower on screen, but still in line, and to the right by the same distance, as it was when maximized.

It's worth noticing that this only seems to happen when max is on one of my monitors, and not the other.  I have always used it on the right hand monitor, which Windows has designated 1.  That is where it happens.  If I drag Max to the left monitor (marked 2), the menus draw correctly.

Others at my company don't seem to be experiencing this.

Anyone else run into this?  Any suggestions on ways to fix it?

Hi @nduguidCKG6B ,

This is a known issue, when 3ds Max has window open from the same session on different monitor with different scaling.

When using 3ds Max on only one of the monitor, you should not experience this issue, same if both monitor are at the same scaling even if they have different resolution, it should not happen either. A workaround if you need to adjust sizes is to change the monitor resolution instead and use the same scaling to achieve the sizing you need.

Please let us know if that help or not with the issue

Thanks for reaching out.

Thanks for the information.  I was about to reply saying that the scaling is set the same on both of my monitors (which it is), but then remembered I have an old TV plugged in as a 3rd monitor, with a small resolution and thus, no scaling.  Removing that has fixed the issue.  Thanks!

I have a similar problem. The menus are bigger and out of range . This can be seen by minimising the 3DS max interface and choosing a menu. In the example picture "Scripting" is not visible 3DS Max takes up less of the screen.

Also see "Help Menu image" attached

What is the fix for this!

I have this problem see images. These can be seen by making the main 3DS Max window smaller (otherwise the menus appear off-screen)
I have three screens : Laptop & 2 x 3560 x 1440 Benq Displays. The System display settings are all set to "2560 x 1440 (Recommended)"

There are also settings that could be set in the Nvidia control panel - I have left them alone for now.

You said this is "known problem" in 2022. It will be 2024 in 4 months.

What is the latest fix for this?

You can go to the folder that Max is installed in, look for the 3DSMax.exe config file.  Rename that  3DSMax_old.exe and see if that fixes it.  It did for me.  Well I actually renamed it and then moved it to my desktop.
