Max 2018 Issues

So far here are the issues we have encountered switching to Max 2018.4 early this year:

  • Curve Editor does not have maximize/minimize window. Double clicking the Curve Editor toolbar docks it. 2017 maximized it like other software.
  • Curve Editor doesn't scroll zoom still. Ctrl Alt Click Middle button zooms sort of works. It also has auto-zoom off by default unlike 2017.
  • Physical Camera FOV can un-linked from Focal Length on occasions. This causes odd values and unreliable FOV.
  • When the Physical Camera is hidden changing controls bugs out when selected. Lens shift or Vertical tilt zooms.
  • Physical camera Perspective button dollies the camera instead of adjusting field of view. This was fine in 2017.
  • Imported geometry can come in on a unknown layer. Using a script you can get it back on a normal layer.

If I think of others I will edit this list.

Hey @jneilon I'll address these as much as I can given where we're at now.

  • Previously, it was in its own window frame. Curve editor was refactored into a native QT dialog. This behavior was as designed in order to better dock the curve editor. We do hear that users are missing that minimize-maximize buttons and we're looking into how best to do that with the new UI technology we're using. While it may seem like an easy change, there's a lot of testing that needs to go along with this.
  • For these workflow issues, I would direct your attention to the 3ds Max Ideas site. This is the best place to suggest improvements for the development team to work on.
  • For the Physical Camera issues, I would suggest you report those as bugs. I will do what I can to bring those to the team responsible for that to see if they're known already or not. Either way, they sound like wrong behavior.
  • For the import issue it would be good to have a bit more information. Are you importing non-Max file formats like Revit, AutoCAD, Inventor, OBJ, FBX, etc.? Or are you merging Max files from another scene and the content isn't lining up with respect to layers?

1) Thanks looking forward to an update.

2) It is workflow but also something that worked before just fine and now does not work.

3) Thanks I will try to replicate some. A few happen all the time others are more difficult to reproduce.

4) This apparently is max to max merges. I need to ask our team more details.

I will take the time to report all these as bugs as soon as I have time to write it out and capture video, etc..
