Max 2016 Missing Layer Features Unhide/Hide & Freeze/Unfreeze

It appears the new way of handling layers is missing some previous features.

Is there a new way of unhiding/hiding layers or freeze/unfreeze in one button click?

Hello,

I understand you miss the one click buttons to hide/unhide, freeze/unfreeze layers in 3ds Max 2016.

You are correct, those one click buttons are not in 3ds Max 2016, its as designed for this release.

For 3ds Max 2016, users can right click to hide/unhide as an alternative.

Select items in the layer manager , right click and choose what’s needed from the popup menu.

If you want a return or inclusion of certain features its always best to enter them

in the link below so they get proper attention from our 3ds Max developers.

Best Regards

Thanks but manually clicking 100+ Revit import layers makes it tricky until I can reduce layer counts.

I will make a request to have the feature added back via your link.

Thats a great point you make and I'll submit it in my report to engineering for you.
Its good we log what users actually experience in ther real world uses with 3ds Max.

Thanks Again for taking the time to report this!

You can select multiple layers and hide/show them with one click.(Click first->Shift-Click last)

You can also nest your 100+layers in another layer and hide/show/freeze the with one click on it.

Great thanks Vishnu

aon yes manually shift + clicking layers is possible but not in a single click like it was before. The layers dialog box was replaced with the layer explorer which is fine but surely their is room on the toolbar that I know is full of options to bring back more efficient options that we are all have a used during our daily workflow for many years.

I am not following, sorry can you explain?

What exactly was it in old Layer Manager that`s no longer possible with the new one?

Maybe i missed something back then.

See the image attached. These two buttons were removed. The buttons allowed a one click solution to hide and unhide or freeze and unfreeze versus the new three step process.

It may seem minor but I find working daily with max a small feature like this slows down easy tasks that should take a second to do.

Ah, those are used to toggle hide/freeze all layers.Never used them.

Well, they might add it back in a future release.

Meanwhile you can try this script by Changsoo Eun:

Thanks for the explanation.

why would you need a script to replace what autodesk took out?

that is stupid.

and WHY did they take it out (layer manager) completely?

its like completely replacing the "compact material editor" with "slate material editor"

this is the same thing with that clunky caddy. 3ds max will soon will become a bloatware no one will want to use.

it's so bloated now.

They took it out because it was a mess. You are talking about code bloat, but want two kind of LayerManager in 3dsmax?

The new one has many advantages over the old one. You can filter the list, nest Layers, selections are synced with the scene. You can add various property columns to it. You can even create your own Light Explorer.

Also about code bloat, it`s you guys constantly bitching about no being able to go back to legacy features?
