Material editor full of UnwrapChecker (Physical Material)

I have replaced all materials in my scene and used a singular Atlased Texture.

This scene has only one very complex object.  This object is a whole bunch of groups within one group.

So far so good.

But I have found a ton of UnwrapChecker (Physical Material) s in my scene along with my one Atlased Texture.

How do I get rid of these things????

Where the heck did they come from?

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for sharing this with the community.

If I understand correctly you wish to remove unused materials from your scene?

  • You can remove them using the Slate Material Editor (I think its possible to do a batch?)
  • Did you try the Asset Tracker? (shift + T)

Apologies if I misunderstood.

Look forward to hearing from you,

Regards,

Thanks for responding.

The Asset Tracker doesn't even show these ... see attached.

Note I have one Atlased Material at the top of the Scene Materials list and a ton of UnwrapChecker (Physical Material)

  materials after that.

I have double clicked on the offenders, seen them in the View, selected again, deleted but they don't disappear from

  the list.

I am also at a loss as to where all these materials came from to begin with.

Any other recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Found the solution.

Export to FBX.

In new file import FBX.

Save to new MAX file.

Done.

I'm not sure I would call this a fix, exporting to FBX, more of a clumsy workaround. All the offending maps come from the UI, when you UVW unwrap and view with a checker. Autodesk should have fixed this years ago. Scene materials should not show UI materials.
