Linked .dwg Geometry Stuck together by layer

Hi all;

 I have a .dwg file exported from Rhino that I've linked into Max. All the geometry on a given layer is selected when I select a peice of that geometry. It looks like this thread has the answer for IMPORTED files, but is there any fix for an already-LINKED file?

Hi. Well there once was, but the link manager seems to be broken. Just tried the way I've just to do in 2012, but it doesn't work. Looks like the only way is to Detach the fileband then link it again with a preset the derives AutoCAD Primitives by Entity. Not at all great!! But the only way ATM.
