Layers & Groups (handling) question

Hello,

I'm still struggling a bit with the Max workflow:

I wonder some things with Layers & Groups

a) when I set a layer for example on "display as a box", it does not change anything, why?

I need select also all child nodes.

So which sense does it  make, to set any attribute on a layer, when this is not affecting the child nodes.

(is there a quick hotkey command to select with it all child nodes from a layer , I know of course the RMB menu)

b) Groups: when I switch off a group it does not switch off the contained items. I find this confusing, because it makes again no sense to me.   (and again it would be handy to do it this way instead of changing the state of maybe hundreds of subobjects or having to create another layer for this).

c) When I select an object, can I reveal it in the Scene explorer (example: in Maya I only need to press F in the scene explorer ("outliner") and it navigates to the object, I do not have to scroll there)

d) Layer Explorer: Possible also only to display layers (like I can filter for lights, cameras etc), to find nested Layers?

Thanks

a) ...when I set a layer for example on "display as a box", it does not change anything, why?

I need select also all child nodes.  ...is there a quick hotkey command to select with it all child nodes from a layer...

Double click on the layer and all child nodes will be selected

b) Groups

Double click on the Group and all members will be selected

c)...

If scene explorer or layer explorer are open, they will show the selected object.  If you first select an object and then open scene explorer the selected object will be highlighted when you open scene explorer

d) Layer Explorer: Possible also only to display layers (like I can filter for lights, cameras etc), to find nested Layers?

The icons along the left edge of lasyer explorer let you solo camera lights, etc, by alt + left clicking the icon of interest

Thanks,

for

d) I meant filtering for "Layers" itself.

But I found out now, when I deactivate all kinds of filters it is doing exactly this, only showing the layers and nested layers  🙂
