Layer Explorer

Hi

There are two things that would be great for my workflow in the Layer Manager, maybe they are possible;

1. The ability to add colours to layers similar to Photoshop

2. When selecting and moving objects to other layers (see attached) it would be very helpful for the list of Layers to pop up to the right of the "Add Selection To" box.

If this functionality is possible, it would be great to know.

Thanks,

N

You can add a  color column to layers (or objects) by going into "Configure columns" and selecting "Color".  Then clicking on the color allows you to change the color to anything you want.

Regarding 2., if you widen the layer explorer box enough an right click on the right side of the object in question you will be able to see the objects on the left.  A bit of a workaround, but maybe it helps.

Hope this is helpful.

1. color column (see below)

For 2, I realize that I misread your request and that you want the available layers in a selection list, which I agree would be handy.  You probably are well aware of the "Add to Active Layer" button, but that does require you to first make the target layer active, then select the object and then click "add to active layer", unless the desired layer happens to already be set as the active layer.    Hope this helps.

Does your answer enable me to change the layers text similar to below?

Your photoshop example is the name of the layer.  Yes, you can change the name of any layer in Max.  Right click on the layer and you have the "Rename" option.

What I mean can be seen below - it's  a bit rough but it shows the layers colour can be changed to more easily see specific layers - helpful if there are alot of layers;

As close as you can get in Max is to move the color column to the 2nd column (see below).

Give it a try, maybe it'll work for you.

That's and interesting idea, it's a shame max won't allow it to be placed to the left of the Name column
