keyboard shortcuts not working after 2018.4 update

Hi,

Like most people I use a lot of keyboard shortcuts M-Material Editor, F-Front View, AltQ - Isolate selection toggle etc. etc. dozens of them.

However if I have an object selected (most of my objects are editable polys) the keys won't work. If I deselect the object the key works as it should. But the Isolate selection toggle key is now useless.

I have tried the 'Keyboard Shortcut Override Toggle' but it makes no difference.

I've just installed the 2018.4 update, it was working fine beforehand.

I've done both procedures.

I had a fresh install and after I've manually made all the changes to the interface, saved the custom scheme and then I loaded my old shortcuts and the issue begins.

If I have a Editable Poly object and then make one single click on it to select, no hotkey will work with it, whether it's Delete, Q, W ,E ,R. Then as soon as I make any rotation or pan around the object the hotkeys start functioning again.

Previously the issue was happening also on the UVW Unwrap Edit Unwrap window, I was trying to replicate now but it's not happening.

I am having the same issue. Whenever I set up my keyboard shortcut preferences as soon as I restart max the shortcuts are lost.

Hi Nick. I believe the issue specifically questioned in this thread is solved.  Several of us at work are running 2018.4 with out any shortcut issues (beyond the usual random loss where you have to restart or re-load your config)

Last I had heard the .4 shortcut issue was fine. I hope I'm not wrong.

Your issue is not completely new though. You might find other threads or other avenues to help fix your problem. Are you sure its just .4? Like is it possible to go to .3 and see if that works fine? and then the moment you go to .4 the problem arises? If so then definitely contact Autodesk about that!

I always save my config after doing any changes at all. Under Customize -> Save Custom UI Scheme I save in to a new folder after every change. So I will have just tons of these folders with configs.   

Try setting some stuff up and then saving it out. Then restart max. See if its reset. If so try loading the config and see if it works.  Just as a test.

I sometimes wonder if there are permission issues with writing to the files needed to keep the custom setup.  Sadly I wouldn't know how to fix this stuff though.  The one time I ran in to an issue similar to yours was probably ages ago (like 2008) and i reinstalled 3dsmax completely and I think that fixed it.   I recall max just kept losing the shortcuts rapidly and completely.

Hello all. I have been having this issue for a long time and it is not related to a specific version of Max. It has been doing this in 2018 as well as 2019. Any of mentioned methods seems not working and the problem always come back. The only solution is restart Max, then it works for minutes or a bit longer but at some short period of time it will fail again. 

It is very annoying issue which prevent me from working. Very frustrated.
