keyboard shortcuts not working after 2018.4 update

Hi,

Like most people I use a lot of keyboard shortcuts M-Material Editor, F-Front View, AltQ - Isolate selection toggle etc. etc. dozens of them.

However if I have an object selected (most of my objects are editable polys) the keys won't work. If I deselect the object the key works as it should. But the Isolate selection toggle key is now useless.

I have tried the 'Keyboard Shortcut Override Toggle' but it makes no difference.

I've just installed the 2018.4 update, it was working fine beforehand.

Been noticing the same behavior after the .4 update myself. Oddest of these anomalies is the "M" hotkey actually cycling through the different workspaces - which have never been hotkey-able to my knowledge. Hadn't noticed it was selection dependent as  you mention.

Will be filing bug report. You can do the same -> http://download.autodesk.com/us/support/report_a_bug.html?SelProduct=3dsMax

I`m on 2018.4 and it seems to work here just fine. All shortcuts are working no matter if object select or not.

I've submitted a bug report.

I've noticed that if I select a box object them most of the keys work.

If it's an editable poly then they stop working. If multiple objects are selected then they're working again.

But there is a random element to it as well.

Confirmed on 2 different Win 7 64 machines. Probably some code interaction that slipped through the cracks - hopefully they will fix next update. 🙂

I have this problem too.

It seems that all shortcuts stop working quite randomly. Even 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 in editable poly. Alt+W For viewport maximize, M for material editor.. etc.

It's very strange cause if I pan a viewport with the middle button, the shortcuts start working again.

I have already reseted my UI by renaming the ENU-folder and it didn't fix the problem.

What would be the easiest way to move back to 2018.3? Do I have to remove the whole Max 2018 install and install everything again?

This update made my job basically impossible!

as you just found out...  best to wait to install updates so quickly until you read about them first.

Perhaps a OS problem? I`m on Win10 Pro creators update here. Everything works just fine.

I'm on w10 with creators update, and I have the problem. So I don't think it's related to Windows version.

And yesterday everything worked just fine.

Do either of you have the latest FALL CREATORS UPDATE that fixed a bunch of problems that "prevents one from doing their job!".

I'm on Win 8.1

Hope it's a quick fix as it's bloody annoying.

We tried to repeat this bug on three different almost identical workstations that have same Windows version, Max plugins, scripts etc.. ,

Two were having this issue, but one was working fine.

We narrowed this down to be a some kind of "window focus" problem.

Docking the command panel instead of a floating command panel window seems to restore the shortcut functionality.

So this seems to be a quick workaround to fix problem.

It's mind boggling that this kind of issue can appear on a product "update".

Neither docking or floating the Command Panel has any effect on the hot key issue for me unfortunately.

Hello,

I don't feel lonely anymore ! this one is driving me crazy ... any answer from Autodesk so far ? I fear that with new 3dsmax version coming in a few weeks, Autodesk won't provide more updates for 2018, no ? so far 3dsmax 2018 is pretty good, but little things here and there are really boring 😞

Has anyone found a solution to this problem?  Any word from Autodesk?  Super annoying having to deselect an object just to use a shortcut key to do something else.  Is Autodesk aware of this? Don't care?  This topic has been up for over a month now.  A quick "Yes, we're working on it", etc, should suffice.

::::  crickets ::::

This should be a HOTFIX if autodesk fault...but hell, probably a Windows 10 "Creator's Update etc" screwup!

Timd,

Rather it's Microsoft's fault, Autodesk, or Logitech Keyboards, they should still at least acknowledge they're aware of the problem.  That they are fixing it, or that there is nothing they can do about it.  Leaving the customers in the cold is just, wrong.
