Is 3dsmax 2016 no longer usable?

I've been using 2016 student version for years now.

It's been my mainstay. Mainly because I like the IRAY renderer.

It's clean, simple, amazing lighting and shading, and it works with old cheapo GPU's you can get off craigslist.

now I had to reinstall recently, and have been unable to get it activated.

It keeps saying "license expired"

then when I click activate I get "

Expired license
One of the following problems has occurred:

• The serial number you entered is for a product license that has expired.
  To activate this product, either use a valid serial number for a license that has not expired or obtain a new license and get a new serial number for activation.

i have a request code, but no where to put it, because it seems they've pulled 2016 off the site.

2016 is no longer available under the student license program since 2020 came out

so Autodesk will not issue you a serial number for this version

BUMMER!

So does that mean that when 2021 comes out they'll delete 2017 as well?
that would mean that all my iray scenes will be completely unusable!!

Now I totally regret using all those iray material.  Should have just used the ubiquitous archviz material.  😞 😞

Do note, you can process your old files with the scene converter.
