Invert transform sign for multiple objects?

Hi,

I need to move a bunch of objects, reversing the signs of their transforms. I.e. set all negative X position values to positive position values. I know I can use the Mirror tool, but it causes problems. It inverts the scale, and even after resetting scale in the Hierarchy panel, I still have problems. Specifically when I bring the model over to Maya via FBX, all the rotations are hopelessly screwed up.

So I need to move objects to reverse the signs of their positions. Is there some way to do this? A script maybe? I have searched and searched and have not found anything.

Thanks,

Aaron

Did you try switching the Mirror-tool to geometry? This way it won't change the scale-value.

Hi @aaronfross

The following line of maxscript will reverse the world x position of each selected object :

for o in selection do o.position.x = -o.position.x

Obviously, you can substitute position.y or position.z for position.x

Hope it helps.

Inverting position (in obj./node level) is nothing like mirroring.

Mirroring on 1 or 3 axes can't be done without inverted scaling ( at least 1 axis)

Mirroring on 2 axes = rotating +/- 180° on third

So rotating +/- 180° around 0,0,0 on 1 axis would invert position on other 2, and not only that.

But for (just) geometry mirroring definitely "Mirror" modifier

For inverting any controller in curve editor add "Multiplier curve" and change it's value from 1 to -1.

For "hard" resetting use Reset Xform utility.
