Inventor - 3DS Max - glTF (three.JS) ?s

Have been experimenting with the combination of Inventor .iam to 3DS Max to three.js.  Import in Max as Meshes or Body Objects.  Then export to glTF using babylon.js exporter: https://doc.babylonjs.com/resources/3dsmax_to_gltf

The best combination in terms of mesh quality and file size so far I've found is to import as Mesh(s) at the lowest mesh quality (quality is fine),  apply Standard Materials to the individual objects, then export as gltf.

Wondering if any one has any good suggestions to decrease file size or any other optimization/ipn/etc.

Have read about using Optimize or Pro Optimize in Max or Meshsmooth, but have not experimented yet.

Thanks for your time.

Hi @areich

File size will probably most be impacted by changes in your texture files.

What format are you using?

What texture resolution are you using?

@brentscannell The are only two bitmaps for the applied textures for the referenced project, both of which are rather small.  The rest are just plain standard materials.

Latest version of the project: here

So the issue seems to be the lead screws.  As the total polygons in the scene is 383,000.  The two lead screws account for 132,000 of those polygons.  Which in the log it suggests to use Optimize for them.

Other than that the other errors were just Unsupported material type 'Autodesk Generic'. Material is ignored.  Which I just needed to update to standard 3ds Max materials.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, have a wonderful day.

Hi @areich ,

I'm just checking back on this thread to see if you had managed to resolve this issue, and if you had any other questions. Can you please let us know? Thanks!

Hi @areich,

Just wanted to check back to see if this issue had been resolved, and if you could optimize/replace the "lead screw" objects in your scene to get the face count down substantially. Can you please let us know? Thanks!
