Install Error:3ds Max 2022.2 update 'The install couldn't finish. Error 15'

I've been trying to update 3ds max 2022 to 2022.2 but I'm met with the following error:

Install error:3ds Max 2022.2 update

The install couldn't finish

Error 15

I've tried using both automatic downloads through the Desktop App and downloading manually, but get the same error.

I literally can't find anything about this error message, so help would be much appreciated.

Wasn't 100% clear in your description but first I would use the "Browser Download" option as it's the most reliable. "Install Now" for example downloads as it's installing so any internet interruptions might corrupt in the installation. Also you can delete the contents of "C:\Autodesk" as they contain the extracted installation files.

Before installing I would also disable any system backup software like OneDrive, Google Sync, Dell Backup, etc. as they lock files when syncing which can mess up installs. Same goes for any anti-virus. I had a few cases where disabling the anti-virus was not enough, had to uninstall it for the installation to work.

Install logs can be found in the "%temp%' folder.

I have tried emptying the "C:\Autodesk" folder before installing.

I've disabled One Drive, Dropbox and Google Drive, none of which should be interfering with the paths used here anyway.

So when I said 'manually' download I did actually mean through the browser.

(The browser method is actually difficult to use because it wants to download 4 files via one clicked link.  Neither Chrome nor Edge will do this for me, and just proceed to download the first file.  Why not just have 4 links?  I eventually managed to download by manually typing the links in)

When trying this method the extractor just seems to close, no error message.

However, I was now able to find an error in the temp folder:

Error is: 0x7ff5c8.
Failed to verify signature. Exiting application.

I thought maybe the downloads were corrupted, but they do seem to work on another workstation...?

What else could cause a signature problem?

I found a similar issue here:

 https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/installation-licensing/not-able-to-extract-data-from-sfx-files-for-au...

..which got me looking in the right direction.  I ended up having to manually find the correct certificate and add it to the Trusted Root Certification Authorities Store as shown here:

How to manage Trusted Root Certificates in Windows 10 (thewindowsclub.com)

I dont even pretend to understand half of this, but it worked.

I'm having the same issues. It's truly disappointing that its so difficult to just do an update.
