Icons are missing in 2016

Hello everyone. I just reinstalled 2016 and none of my icons are coming up. Even when I go to my modifiers, there isn't even text. Not sure what is going on. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

It could be a video card driver issue. Go into 'Customize/Preferences.../Viewports and change the display type to one of the others, like Nitrous or OpenGL and restart Max. See if the text and icons show up. They try another. If any of them fix the problem then it looks like it may be a DirectX driver issue with your card.

If you find that's the case completely uninstall your video driver and see if the manufacturer has a cleaner to make sure you get every bit of the driver removed. Then reboot and reinstall the latest driver and see if things are repaired.

One thing you didn't do which would be helpful was to explain how this happened. Did it work and then all of a sudden you load Max and the icons are gone? Or, did you just install Max and find that you can't see the icons? Or, if it's a school project, are you sharing a machine and the one you are on today is malfunctioning? We don't know your situation and don't know your hardware either. So all we can do is guess. A little more info would help.

Does the suggestion by @RobH2 help here?  I do suggest trying another display driver in 3ds Max to see if that helps with this issue.  Another suggestion would be to reset your UI by going to Customize->Custom UI and Defaults Switcher-> and then hitting SET on the bottom. Then, restart Max. Can you please try that for me?

sorry, havent been in cad lately, but i'm back now.  I'm not even sure if i have 3dsmax on my machine.  Can you give me step by step instructions on how to change my driver?

Also a little about my set up. 

I'm running on a dell precision laptop, and its basically new.  I've installed 2016 and 2017 on it.  I'm the only one who uses this computer and the icons have been missing from 2016 autocad a day after install.  I've reinstalled it and they appear, then dissapear again the next day.

I don't know much about CAD, so I'm not really able to answer that I'm afraid.  Do you want me to move this post to the CAD forums?

I have some basics about changing your display driver in 3ds Max here.  Once you get to [display driver drop-down list] then you just pick a new driver, press OK, and restart 3ds Max.  Can you please try that for me?
