Finalizing Load

The three projects I worked on yesterday can't be opened today after the latest update. All three sit at Finalizing Load. I waited an hour for each, and each went into a Not responding state. What can I do?

you will probably need to revert back to 2023.1: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/3ds-max-forum/reverting-back-to-2023-1/td-p/11424327

On behalf of the 3ds Max team I wanted to share with you that we are aware of an issue that is preventing some scenes and mesh data from loading into the recently released 2023.2 update. We are all as disappointed by this issue as everyone else is, we care deeply about 3ds Max and about you as a customer and the expressive content that you create in 3ds Max to tell creative stories.

Thanks to the help and support of the 3ds max community we have received numerous sample scenes, have tracked down what is causing the issue, and are working on a solution that we can deliver out to the world soon so that you can have confidence and enjoyment in 3ds Max 2023.2. We thank you for your patience and support.

I am pleased to share that an update to 3ds Max, version 2023.2.2, is now available to download through the Autodesk Desktop App (ADA) or through the manage.autodesk.com download portal. This update resolves an issue with Chamfer operations in 3ds Max 2023.2 which resulted in the software entering an endless loop and becoming unresponsive either when loading files (locking up at 73% load) or when applying a Chamfer (through the Chamfer modifier, or Editable Poly or the Edit Poly modifier) to edges that connected to an open edge on your mesh data when using “Limit Effect”.

On behalf of the 3ds Max team I would like to thank everyone who took the time to share their scenes and report this issue to us, your help enabled us to quickly confirm and resolve the issue.

I would also like to take another opportunity to apologize for this issue. We are all as deeply disappointed as you are that this issue shipped with 2023.2, and we hope that with 2023.2.2, and future releases of 3ds Max, will resume the positive trend of releases that provided the stability, features, and functionality that assists you to create expressive content and share creative experiences in your work.

Hi, the loading issue is still there in 2023.2.2

Loading freezes at 73% on projects I try to open.

Please this is becoming a nightmare. I'm losing jobs because of this issue. I uninstalled Max already 3 times the past week. Please help me out.

Try to merge the scene into a new 3ds Max Scene.

Does it happen with a fresh 3ds Max install without any plugins or scripts? Sometimes it can be corruption in one file that corrupts everything else.

I have the issue that the Autodesk App randomly tells me that I have  new updates available (USD and Retopology) which I already updated. If I restard my computer they do not appear anymore. But then after a couple of hours suddenly I get again the notification asking me to do the updates.

Is there any update coming for 3DS Max 2023? 2023.2.2 is awful!! scenes are taking an hour to open hanging at 73%, saving is dreadfully slow. Its been a terrible 3DS Max release,

This happening in our studio right now. Even files created yesterday are now not loading. Stuck at 72% Finalising load, before closing down itself after 5 mins.

We've changed/added NOTHING to our systems in months.

Scene loading problems began this morning using Max 2022 (have used since release without issues). After a time consuming clean install (and I mean, everything Autodesk related nuked) we installed the most current 2024 version. Exactly the same thing happening.

I'm personally at a loss as to what to do. Funny that this thread is labelled as 'Solved'. Lol. Typical support BS.

Going install max23 and see what's what there. Btw - many files haven't got a chamfered object in them (though lots are smoothed or subdivved), and none are editable polys (I'm a mesh man). Just to cover those answers.

I have the same issue with Max 2024 v26.2.0.22013.

The file takes upto an hour to load (previously 2 minutes) and fails to render at all. Very serious problem.

Update, I think I'm narrowing it down to VRAY Proxies in my case. By renaming the DIR containing the assets, the file opens. (obviously without the assets).
