Hello @Anonymous

Thanks for posting your question to the 3DS Max Forums! What version of 3DS Max are you using? From the look of the hard edges of the mesh, you are going to have to hand model those faces back into the mesh, I suggest converting your object into a Poly, and use a combination of the bridge tool and the swift loop also merge vertex tool can come in handy. Here is a video of some other modeling techniques.

If you have any further questions, I'm more then happy to help! Also a screenshot of your mesh with wireframe preview on top would be awesome. You can do that by clicking on default shading in your viewport and navigating to the display selected option and clicking Display Selected with Edged Faces.Screenshot (32).png

I hope this helps, talk to you soon!

If it is filling the hole beyond the hole you are wanting to fill, it's because it isn't capped correctly.

You need to make sure all vertices are welded, otherwise it will try to fill the entire mesh.

You can select 'border' in Editable Poly, and select all and it will show you all the unwelded vertices on the mesh (by a big red edge line).
