Fbx export Crashing

Anybody else having problems with Fbx exporter? I have a relatively simple file that will crash everytime. Totally repeatable bug.

Where to report? Yes I  have done the crash report dialog that comes up.

It's likely not a bug but a corrupt fbx. Over the years I've had 3 or 4 that just crashed everytime I tried to use them in Max. They would open in other programs without any problems and I used that to try to say it was a bug in Max but in reality, I just think Max might be less tolerant to slightly corrupt code in a particular FBX. I had to replace the FBXs to get around it.

Thanks but max crashes and the fbx is never created. So I cannot see how it is a corrupt fbx. What you mention sounds like an import issue and not export.

I see. I wasn't sure if it was and FBX you imported and then was trying to export again.

In this case, I'd try and ENU reset first. If that fails, maybe a reinstall. It sounds like a local issue though. I'm sure millions of FBX files are expored every day using Max and if it were a bug there would be 1000s of people screaming about it.

I get it. I have exported many scenes to fbx without issues. But I have one that is a repeatable crash. As a former Alpha and Beta tester of Max I know how this file can be of significant use to developers. I am looking for a bug posting link so it can be reviewed by them.

Not resetting or re installing for the sake of 1 file.

Understood, gotcha.

That link is hard to find. I don't know where it is myself. Maybe do a PM to Alfred or one of the moderators and see where it is.

Some things to try:

  1.  Reset the FBX export settings.  (maybe a checkbox active accidentally that's causing problems?)
  2.  Use an STL check modifier to make sure the mesh doesn't have any rats nests or something odd going on.
  3. Try exporting as OBJ to see if it triggers any mesh warnings that STL check doesn't.

Otherwise, the bug submit is now part of submitting a ticket through Manage.autodesk.com.  That's where you would do that.

Hi @mike,

Thanks for sharing your issue with us.
Sorry to learn you are experiencing this.

Any thoughts about the post from @Diffus3d?

If you private message me the email address you attached to the crash report I can search the database for it. It should have information about the module at fault.

May also help if you could share a sample of the scene that crashes at export? Or again, send to me in private messages so I can examine it on my system. User files are always protected by confidentiality, never shared, and deleted after.
I may be able to pass it to the devs to count as your 'bug post' link.

We look forward to hearing from you.
Many thanks.

Hi @mike,

Can reproduce.

Crash report (CER) says Substance module at fault.

Can you try removing any Substance elements the exporting?

Many thanks.

There should be a substance module for whatever engine it's going into rather than exporting substance materials.  I think Raiden is spot on here.
