From the Max help...
[exclamation mark icon here] "Status for the file could not be obtained. This typically means you are not logged into the provider."

Max 2016 (SP1/EXT1)
Win7Pro x64 (SP1). i5-3570K @ 4.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX11.
nVidia GTX760 (2GB) (Driver 430.86).

Just to add to Steve_curley's response, does your project use any kind of asset management system like Vault? Also what version of 3ds Max are you using?

That was a direct quote from the help. I didn't say it - the help says it. The "provider" is an asset tracking system such as Vault. Beyond that I know nothing about it.

Max 2016 (SP1/EXT1)
Win7Pro x64 (SP1). i5-3570K @ 4.4GHz, 8Gb Ram, DX11.
nVidia GTX760 (2GB) (Driver 430.86).

Since using a renderfarm service (REBUSfarm) and installing their scripts, I too have these exclamation marks.

Optically annoying, but less important than the "Status" column, which is too narrow in your screenshot.

Behind the "status unknown" it tells things like:

"missing" (if not found)

"found" (if found elsewhere)

or nothing, if found in the right place Smiley Happy

You must go to Options inside Asset Tracking and click on "Disable Asset Tracking".

The comments by @Steve_Curley and @BenBisares are correct when referring to Vault protection, and @Anonymous is also correct in that unchecking "Disable asset tracking" will also produce these ! marks.  Marking solutions in this post so future users can benefit from this, thank you all for the excellent posts.

Best Regards,

you are the hero man thanks so much...

I can confirm that this behavior is most likely caused by asset management software. After I installed "Project Manager" from Kstudio Ihad the same behaviour - all marked as "Unknown status", even after uninstalling the software for test reasons. Options --> Disable Asset Tracking is the solution! Thanks!
