error xaml 3ds max 2021

Hello,

I'm fairly new to 3ds Max, returning to it after a few years. So I installed the 2021 student version and every time I try to start up the software I get an error " error parsin xaml file". I click ok and I get another error " the main ribbon configuration file is possibly corrupt" , I click yes to reset to default setting then when the window 3ds max opens, I get another error "an error has occurred and the application will close now" and then I am forced to shut down the app.

This has been going on for several days now, I cant open the software in any way. So the ways I tried to fix this:

1- I reinstalled again - same issue

2- I followed step by step guide from autodesk community "How to reset 3ds Max user preference settings back to default" Link here. Faced the same issue after launching again.

3- I re-put my activation code- same issue.

So I am really lost on how to fix this, It seems to be working fine when I first installed it, and now this.

Information about my laptop:

> System Type : 64-bit operating system, x64- based processor

> RAM: 16.0 GB

> Processor: Intel (R) Core(TM) i7-8565U CPU @ 1.80GHZ 1.99 GHZ

> Windows 10

Sorry for the long message but I thought to give as much as information I can so someone can help me with this please.

Thank you

Hi Shsamaei,

Thanks for your question, and I'm sorry your copy of 3ds Max seems to be broken here.

It looks as if you've done exactly what you needed to do to troubleshoot this issue -- a clean reinstall and resetting your preferences to fix any corruption. In some caes, running multiple copies of 3ds Max and then shutting them down quickly can corrupt your settings as each copy of Max tries to write to the same ENU folder.

However, if you've reset your preferences and you're still getting these issues, it suggests that something on your system is "breaking" 3ds Max repeatedly. This could be caused by antivirus software, a recent Windows 10 update breaking your permissions, a bad plugin or MAXScript or a corrupted maxstart.max file (if you're using one -- if so, I'd suggest deleting it).

Can you give us some additional information about your system and any other software that you're running? (Especially antivirus software and any Max plugins.) Have you set exceptions for 3ds Max in any antivirus or firewall software programs?

Also, are you running the Customize > 3ds Max Security Tools? (They should be enabled by default.)

Please let us know, and we hope to hear from you soon!

Take care,

Hi Jon,

Thanks so much for your reply.

I havent downloaded any max plugins yet, as I just installed the 3ds max. So was planning on doing that gradually.

I do have a anti-virus though, its kapersky and I've had it a for while. I use autocad and sketchup, never had problems launching them with the virus running. I didn't select any options for the 3ds max to be running with the anti-virus, as I usually get asked. but if that's the case, how can I check to be sure ( I dont always know what my virus is blocking so not very familiar with this part).

More information about my laptop:

-Softwares that I have currently: Autocad, sketchup, Fusion 360, twinmotion amongst other adobe softwares ( I had an error with autocad yesterday when tried openning), not with sketchup and fusion

- Windows version : 1903

- Os build: 18362.592 ( not sure if this will help but will share in case) - Laptop is Asus Vivovook

Hope I've answered your question, please let me know if any more info is required from my end.

Thank you!
