issaralos,
To isolate this error, does it happen with just the one file or all files you try and open? If this is a general error, you can find the steps to delete your User Profile and reset the 3ds Max preferences on this site.
If this appears to be file specific, a brute force way to recover most of your file is to open a new blank file and then import the first half of the items of the bad file. If this works without an error, save the new file with a new name. Then try and import the next quarter of the items from the bad file. If that works, continue importing half of the remaning items until you get an error. Then you will know which selection of objects has the bad element. Then try importing the remaining objects one-by-one until you get everything imported in your file, except the bad object.
Then hopefully the bad object is something easy to rebuild/replace and you can move forward with your project.
As I said this can be time consuming and can be frustrating. Also, you will have to recreate your Environment/Background settings and your rendering/output settings. But it is hopefully better than nothing.
