Error importing AI file: Line in file exceeds 255 characters

Hi,

I'm attempting to import an AI file (CS3) containing a point into 3DS 2016 and I get the following message:

"Line in file exceeds 255 characters"

Followed by:

"Improper file format"

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong as I've imported AI's before without problems

Thanks

Scott

Scott,

When I bring in Adobe Illustrator files to 3ds Max, I always save them down to Adobe Illustrator 8 format.

Can you try that and see if it resolves the import issue ?

Jeff

Hello @Anonymous,

I wonder if the file is currently in a path that exceeds 255 characters + file name.  If you were to put the file on your C: root and try it, do you get the same issue?

If you want, you can PM me a link to the file or I could create a private box for you and I can take a closer look.  @iadproductions has some good advice as well with the version 8 format recommendation.

Please hit the "Accept as Solution" button if my post fully solves your issue or answers your question. This lets me know that I was effective in helping you, and thank you for doing so.

Best Regards,

Hello,

I'm also facing this issue and during saving or export the file from illustrator, I don't have an option where I can save the program in any older version.

My program is illustrator cc 2017 and trying to import it in 3ds max 2018.

I don't know what m I doing wrong. I need to solve it for completing my work.

Thanks

Wish

When doing a 'Save As' on the second dialog box select the drop down for Ilustrator CC and then select select Illustrator 8, it should be 3rd up from the bottom of the list.

Hope that helps!
