Does using backburner for render job use less resources?

this is a bit of an odd question. But I seem to use less ram and have overall a faster render when I render to backburner server setup on one pc. should mention Vue is also rendering the scene.

My question is it more stable to render using backburner, less resources?, easier to restart a failed job etc. Also can i shut down 3dsMax after starting job and just leave the render window up? Thanks

sorry i dont get also once you send it to backburner render if you can work on another file in max, for example right now I dont have the file open in max but it is rendering the animation with backburner, but if I close max then the monitor sees the application as down after completing the current frame being rendered, even though the render window is still up. Thanks.

Backburner runs independantly from the Max UI that you work in. So Max can be shut down while server is running, in fact it's better if it is. Because server does not load the whole Max UI it does use less resources to render.
Using BB does give you more control over managing render jobs, allowing you to submit a number of jobs and manage things in Queue Monitor.
It is possible to work on another Max job while BB is rendering, but if it is on a machine that is running server and rendering, that will eat up most or all of the system resources making the performance almost impossible to work with, so I don't recommend it.

thanks Samab,
Can you tell me if there is a way to purge the RAM cache in max, sometimes for some reason vue and max dont play nice together and a simple render goes from 20% of my 8gb ram to 100%, i have to restart to fix it, but would be nice if there was a quick way to dump the loaded up memory thanks.
