Daylight system and viewport

When I add a daylight system it sets the multipier of the light to 60ish. My viewport is blown out so I hit Ctrl L to revert to Default Lighting for the viewport. But when I switch views, it goes back to the Daylight viewport lighting. How do I prevent this and is it possible to have specific lights affect the viewport?

Haven't tried this, but perhaps Scene States could help here; Tool menu/Manage Scene States... Check out the tutorial:

I haven't found any good use for scene states, and I don't see what the advantage would be over hitting ctrl+L and swapping a scene state (hoping nothing breaks)... You could also use an animation layer and switch that on and off... gives you just more control over your scene...

Scene states: a good concept totally wrong implemented.. it's a black box thing that breaks on the slightest change of your scene... XSI does this a lot better!

Sorry for ranting...
