Cursor jumps on screen wrap at transform spinners...

Hi,

Clicking on the transform type-in spinners (x,y,z) at the bottom of the screen, beside Isolate Selection and Lock Selection, and dragging down the screen with the mouse to change the values... the value will jump when the cursor wraps back up to the top of the screen. It should be a smooth transition when the cursor wraps around from bottom to top of the viewport, but it's not, and it's annoying.

It hasn't always happened, but only started a few weeks ago.

Has anyone experienced this happen? It happens to the two installations of 3DSMax 2016 here in the office.

Both running W10, and 3DSMax 2016 SP4.

Both have the same hardware specs as listed in my signature below.

Excellent response, thank you! well said/explained. I only wish more people at Autodesk were dedicated to fires rather than new features and software.

Everyone loses if we keep bouncing from fire to fire, so I hope that helps to explain why we haven't gotten to this yet.

I've recently started using 3DSMax 2019 (and a driver update for my card listed in specs below) and I don't think it's happening anymore. At least I don't think it's doing it anymore.

I'll update with a lot more details tomorrow when I'm back at the workstation.

14 months later... still no fix? does this not rate as a fire worth extinquishing? many quirks I can and have adapted to in 20 years as an autodesk user/customer, this isn't one of them. Am I alone as a spinner user? Do others have a better way?

I've had this issue since the 2014version and apparently no one knows how to fix it, including the devs themselves 😕😕😕

Yep I still have the problem.  We have several workstations with Max on them and they all do it.  Several different types of mice and video cards.  Mostly Quadros.  I'm using a gaming mouse and have tried different sensitivities and resolutions to no avail.  The only thing that works is to go really really slow as you cross the bottom of the screen.

Super annoying.

Hi @rodbrew2 @mehrdad995gta

Thanks for posting about this continuing issue! As @brentscannell mentioned, the development team is aware of the issue, and will hopefully be looking into it as soon as they can make a more direct effort to overhaul the way spinners operate within 3ds Max. Brent is one of the developers that would most likely be working directly on improving this feature, so I defer to him as the expert.

It does everyone a disservice if the development team is jumping around patch fixing every issue, without a holistic vision for the software and how all its elements interact.

In the meantime, @rodbrew2  if you would like to fill out the list previously provided above with further Software/hardware specifications, that would be extremely helpful!

I appreciate you all being so diligent with documenting this issue with the spinners, the forums community is such a helpful space, and that's thanks to everyone on this thread 😄

Thanks @hagen.deloss !

I will add that the development team is trying out a few things and that we may have a prototype of a solution ready for beta testing soon. I would encourage anyone interested in helping us validate a fix to please apply:

I can confirm the appearance of this problem with the windows 10 fall creators update. And it works when moving the cursor slooow when it's going from bottom to top of the monitor.

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for that link. I was about to post an update in this thread actually, as the developers have identified a potential fix for this issue and we are currently in the testing phase. We'd love it if some of you who have been experiencing this issue could help validate that we nailed it by accessing one of our test prototypes through our beta program. For those who aren't already part of our feedback community, there is a link to sign up in my signature.
