Correct version migration instructions

Hi All,

My background is in SolidWorks, but we have now upgraded to Inventor and 3DS MAX, which is an improvement. When upgrading SolidWorks they recommend uninstalling the old version and doing a clean install of the new version. They will run side by side but it's only recommended for testing.

Inventor has a migration tutorial so that libraries and reference files are updated in the correct sequence. Is there a similar migration process for 3DS MAX?

When opening a project/scene from a previous version is any conversion process necessary regarding reference files/standard materials/ etc.?

Regards

Stephen

There probably isn't a solution that fits all cases for all users. What you may have to do will depend on what versions you are moving from/to, as well as any third-party plugins/tools you are using. For example, if you are moving from a very old version and were using Mental Ray, you will have to convert scenes to newer materials. There is a utility in Max called Scene Converter.

If the materials and assets are still relevant to newer versions of Max and you have any required plugins, the process is generally seamless and automatic.
