Is there a way to change in the icons in the UI back to the 3D style?

I really hate these 2D icons.

thanks

Hello @Anonymous,

You can find more information about changing icons here, but it sort of requires that you have an older version of 3ds Max to draw icons from, or that you make your own.  I realize that is not practical for many users.  One of the support specialists is creating a zip file of the older icons for use in 2017 by popular request, but it's not finished quite yet.

Hello @Anonymous,

Did that work out for you?  Just wanted to check in.

Hi Alfred,

I'm wondering if the zip file for old icons you talked about has been made.

Is it available anywhere?

The new icons are a nightmare for me as I need to check what they are every time before pressing.

Thank you

Hi,

Try this post: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/3ds-max-forum/how-can-i-change-ui-of-3ds-max-2017-to-look-like-2014/td...

There is a set of old style icons for light theme on page 7. Just unzip it here ...\3ds max 2017\UI_LN\Icons\...

But read all pages because there is an explanation why some icons are not prepared yet.

Best Regards

Hello @Anonymous,

@Anonymous is the hero who made those icons, and his link above is the one I would use.  Does that work for you?

Hi there,

Thanks for your response.
I did try the set of icons and it did work to some extent. Unfortunately, as discussed in this thread, not all icons work.

Since I prefer the dark layout, I switched to it but the icons were low quality on it.

I ended up switching back to 2016 because trying to get accustomed to the new icons was a nightmare for my productivity.

I had to hover my cursor over every icon for 2 seconds every time before pressing a button.

It's a shame that Autodesk doesn't give the option to use the old icons.
The colours chosen for the 2017 icons are not well chosen in my opinion.

Autodesk should make a high definition version of the old icons and give the option to switch to the old icons.
I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who switched back to 2016 because of the icons.

Thanks again

Hello @Anonymous,

I like the older icons myself, but it's not likely that those older icons will be remade currently.  There are some entries in the Feature Request page you could vote on about the icons if you want to make it clearer to the product managers about your preferences.  This is the best way to get your feelings recorded about this, and thank you.

It's 2021 - is there anyway to revert icons to a better system that isn't all about the-aesthetics- if you haven't got an older version of max?

I can remember the order and where an icon is roughly, but in a row of about 40, I just can't do that properly. The recent icons are just not good, white and blue and too simplistic to see clearly.

All this story with icons is biggest disgrace in Max development!

Even bigger than reinventing Nitrous and OSL circus.

That MaxScript icon-path rubbish ended in official help and they still don't manage to make different/unique icons for different same named things!

@jibijibYou have old icons in Max install folder. God luck with that!
