Blended Box map supported renderers

Just a little follow up on the Blended box map, here's what I've found regarding the supported renderers.

There are 3 out of my available 6 renderers that list the blended box map:

Quicksilver hardware renderer

Scanline renderer

VUE File renderer

So the following renderers do not support the Blended Box map:

ART renderer

Nvidia iray

Nvidia Mental ray

What's more, from the 3 renderers that list the map only the scanline renderer seems to produce the desired result.

(i checked the tutorials and those were using the scanline renderer as wel, though it isn't mentioned.)

Both the Quicksilver and VUE give this result when rendering a simple sphere with the map applied:

Compared to the scanline render of the same sphere without changing any settings:

Not sure why there's a difference, might be on my end but since Mental ray isn't supported I'm a bit disappointed either way.

This is what my christmas image looks like when switching to Scanline. (not changing anything else)

So, yeah, I'm hoping it will support the other renderers in the future as well.

Hello @-niels-,

I have moved your post to a new thread so that this issue had it's own place for discussion.  I can confirm what you have shown here.  It's not supposed to be pickable with Quicksilver or VUE.  For it to work with 3rd party renderers, they'd have to code some support in for the new map so in the future NVIDIA will need to code support for it into MR and iRay.  Vray has aleady done this and Arnold also works.  That Quicksilver and Vue allow the picking of it is a bug though and I'll report it.

Thanks for the confirmation Alfred!

Shame it only works with scanline out of the box.
I had heard of Vray, Arnold was new to me but both are renderers you have to buy so for a hobbyist like me those renderers are way too expensive.

It did make me look at other (free) renderers, found a couple which i will look at but i'm really used to Mental Ray's material setup now... so it's going to be interesting to see how it all works.

That's fair @-niels-.  Give it a few months and let's see what happens!  I went ahead and added an improvement suggestion for the ART renderer to get support for it.  Thanks!
