all windows jumping to upper left

For some reason whenever I pick on a drop down menu (like to group) all my dailogs shrink to their smallest size and jump to the upper left monitor position. It doesn't always happen but it does very frequently enough to be really annoying.

This problem has been around in Max Design 2015 and Max 2016.

Any ideas?
