3ds max stops responding when right click over snaps toggle

This happened to me a few times, but not always. After moddelling for some time, when I try to open the Grid and Snap settings, 3ds max gets unresponsive. unfortunatly it doesn't open the error submit window therefore I will never be able to submit an error report for this.

do you ever create a dump file? because sometimes that will tell you what is causing the problem the only problem is unless your a expert you will not understand what is causing it, you would need to have the Debugging tool and the Debugging Symbol drectly from Mircosoft. there could be a number of things causing it.

From the memory VGA card, etc

there is one thing you can try that is start a new scene and merge the whole model that you have created into that new file and then give it a new name nd delete the old one this does not work all the time 80% of the time it works

Thank's for your tips. But it didn't work.

I created a new file, managed to work for a while but after some time it happened again!

This time payed more attention to what is happening:

1. modelling (poly)

2. all snaps disappear. I can't see on screen the symbols (vertex, middle point, end point, etc)

3. when I right click on the snap toggle max gets unresponsive.

Do you know where I should submit the dump file?

Thanks.

I hope my english it not too difficult to read

submit the dumpfile to your desktop but you need to i have the MSdebbuger file

Debugging with Symbols

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/windows/desktop/ee416588(v=vs.85).aspx

Debugging Tools

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/windows/hardware/ff551063(v=vs.85).aspx

hopefully you know what your doing because you can compeletely mess up a windows file you cannot just open it with notepad or wordpad and the file will be read you need the links above

Hello @nuno_moser,

I do have a bug logged relating to stability issues on occasion with snapping, and there is a chance this is related.  Does this persist if you use DX9 display driver mode?  I have a link here on how to change display drivers.  Also the dump file as mentioned by @irishman_team_kilber can help, even if it's just to attach to the bug tracker case.  I can't be sure this is the same problem or if this is due to something else, but it's a good start.  Thanks for any updates.

Best Regards,

Hello @nuno_moser,

I just wanted to follow up here, did the problem lessen with DX9?  Or, is there a dump file that was updated when you froze?  Thanks for any information.

Best Regards,

They are hard to read @irishman_team_kilber.  The CER uploader has an interpreter and formatting side to it so all the data gets parsed on my end.  Convenient.

I think I'll re-install the OS and everything else to see if it happens again!

Can you tell-me how can I get the dump file from 3ds max in order to submit-it on the forums?

Is it the 3dsmax.dmp? because it's a huge file (3.14 GB )

Thanks

If it's that big then you would need to use winrar or filezip these will make the file smaller the problem is i don't know if you can upload them to the autodesk community. i have never tired to use eaither or them

maybe someone else can answer that question or you can try.

I think this problem may be related with RappaTools hotbox.

I got to this conclusion because I've worked for a while without rappaTools hotbox and I didn't get the problem.

As soon I came back to rappaTools hotbox the problem appeared again.

Has this happened to anyone or just me?

Hello @nuno_moser,

I was away for a bit there for 4th of July vacation, I am following up on this to see where we're at.  Do you find this only happens with Rappatools?  Can you please confirm for me which update/service pack you are currently using, please?

As far as the dump file I can create a folder for you, but that's a big dump file.  Does max crash or does it just stop responding?  (Do you get a CER report window?)   Lastly, do you find this happens with DX11 and DX9?  NVIDIA released an updated driver last week which may help if it only happens in DX11.

Thanks for any information you can give me about the above issues!

Hi Alfred,

I'm using 3ds Max 2017 19.52.915.0

3ds Max doesn't actually crash but the "grid and snap settings" window freezes and I can't do anything else but kill 3ds max task and the CER report window doesn't appear.

I've created a dump file with an empty scene and the size is 2.50 GB

Hello @nuno_moser,

Thanks for the info.  Do you notice any differences with DX9 vs. DX11?  Also, have you found this only to happen with your plugin?  Thanks!
