Hi all,
I have recently over the past week or two noticed that my 3DS max startup time has rocketed from around 30 seconds(?) or so to 6-7 minutes.
The log appears to indicate that it's a graphics issue as this takes a full 5 minutes:
2022/08/17 09:40:16 DBG: [29548] [33984] Is GPU present : Yes
2022/08/17 09:40:16 DBG: [29548] [33984] Graphics driver requested by the user : Nitrous
2022/08/17 09:40:16 DBG: [29548] [33984] Graphics driver actually created in the viewports : Nitrous DX11
2022/08/17 09:45:14 INF: [29548] [33984] Loaded macroscript: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2023\MacroScripts\Macro_AdvancedLighting.mcr
Any ideas on what I should do? (currently updating drivers as I'm posting this)
Thanks,
Chris
I read the log as indicating that the loading of the macroscript, Macro_AdvancedLighting.mcr mentioned in the last line is what took 5 minutes. Try removing the macroscript temporarily from the macroscript directory and see if the delay disappears. After that, if you need the macroscript, you can post it here and it can possibly be troubleshooted.
Removed the macroscript (I believe these are all the macros that ship with max; I haven't added any myself).
Problem persists.

If nothing has changed in your installation over the past 2 weeks, I'd start looking at the system. Is the hard drive full? Are there restore backup files taking up huge amounts of space so that the swap file can't work properly? Is there an update to any realtime scanning software such as A/V? (Avast updates are notorious for creating problems and in my experience require a reinstall of Avast to fix.) Maybe corrupted user settings? I've even seen Windows profiles become corrupted. Maybe you are on Windows 11 with a version of 3dsmax that isn't for Windows 11 and a recent update broke things?
If you've changed nothing with 3dsmax, then in my experience the problem isn't coming from there. Have you installed any lighting plugins or anything recently?
Best Regards,
Alfred (AJ) DeFlaminis
