...and god said.......let there be light......

(why don't you add a light and see what happens)

also, look at the top left corner of your rendered frame (the 2nd pic), the Area to Render is on Selected, try putting it back to View

(also, I can't quite tell by the scrollbars but make sure the viewing window is large enough)

Thanks you for the reply but it didn't help. I added light  and also changed that selected option.

ok, i don't have 2015...and with fading memory...how about turn ON Final Gather ?

also try render from Perspective instead of Ortho...clutching at straws here...

if you want, in a file that's not working...drag out a Teapot...see if that renders...if it doesn't, delete all your main objects, leave the Teapot there and save it as a Test file, then upload it.

toggle the "Display Alpha Channel" button in the rendered frame buffer window.  its the half black/half white circle icon.  if you see nothing when you toggle that on, then nothing is likely rendering at all. if you see something i.e. a white version of your chair, then it could be your exposure settings. Open the Environment and Effects dialog and check.  Do you have mr photographic exposure control selected?

Thanks for replying again. I am not able to render any file. Even a new file . i tried rendering other 3ds max files that i ave . but none of it is working. I guess problem is in 3ds max settings. if i upload my file here. it wont be helpful i guess because problem is wit 3ds max settings, not with file

Hello, Thank you for replying . Well i selected 'mr photographic exposure control' but it didn't help. It was still black screen. Actually when i opened the dialog box nothing was selected. First i selected 'mr photographic exposure control' , it didnt work but then i selected 'Automatic exposure control' and it rendered it. can you tell me what exactly the  problem is? i am attaching two pictures along with it . even after rendering it with 'Automatic exposure control' it showed a dialog box which i don't understand.11.PNG

haha...don't tell me you are displacing at an enormous setting....ie...your geo is blown up so big...it envelops the whole known universe...so the guy that built the universe and then said let there be light....well...he's looking very dejected right now...

Try turning OFF displacement...see what happens...

actually...scratch all above...I dunno what I was smokin'...the Teapot is right there !!!

OK, it looks like were getting somewhere...don't sweat those error messages at the moment.  Since you're using mental ray, lets make mental ray happy and verify some things.  try this--in that teapot scene or better yet a new scene, create a teapot and then add a photometric light to the scene, in this case, add a daylight system.

 Capture.PNG

after you place your daylight system, you will see dialog box open that looks like this:

 Create-MR-Sky.png  just click yes.

Then open the exposure dialog again and change settings to appear like below image.

5-Exposure-Control.jpg

Make sure mr Photographic Exposure Control is selected (red box)

do a quick Render Preview (yellow box) should render the teapot and have a nice blue gradient sky in background

play with presets and EV (exposure value) (green box) for daylight will be between 13-15

If above preview looks good, go do a render and make sure the settings are like this:In particular make sure the render view is set to the viewport your teapot is visible in.  i.e perspective, not top view, etc.

Capture2.PNG

finally, render the scene

if still nothing renders or if it appears black, verify you were rendering correct viewport and click on the alpha toggle in the frame buffer window this will tell us if the geometry is visible to the camera by displaying a pure solid white teapot on a black background.

Capture01.PNG

let us know how it comes out.

Hello @Anonymous and welcome to the community,

I wanted to see if your issue is resolved here and if not, help in any way possible.  Did the helpful posts by @rterry and @Anonymous end up resolving this for you?  If not, I'd love to help out.

It's always best if I can check a file, most settings for the scene are saved in the scene.  If you'd like I can create a private folder for you and investigate there, just say the word.  I do want to see this issue resolved for you, thanks!

Best Regards,

Hello @Anonymous and welcome to the community,

Did you try the things in this thread?  Can you attach a simple scene with this problem, please?

Best Regards,

I was able to fix my problem with the advice given here.  I used the daylight system with the advised settings but used an exposure value of 12 and cranked up the whitepoint to 15000 kelvin to reduce the blue color

Hello everyone, thank you for this very helpful thread!

I add a similar problem and I was able to solve it. However, I also work with - Cebas final render, and with this render

I still have a black image. did anyone encountered with this before?

thank you!

Hello,

Thanks for your question! In general, if you render a scene and it comes up completely black, that usually means:

  1. Missing or incompatible lights for the render engine being used
  2. Missing or incompatible textures
  3. Incorrect exposure settings (in Rendering > Exposure Control)
  4. Incorrect viewport settings

Since Final Render is manufactured by Cebas Software and not Autodesk, could you please contact their technical support if you're having issues with their renderer, and let us know what they say?

Please let us know, and thanks!
