To my knowleage the files don't automatically delete themselves, unless someone delete it have you check your recycle bin if it's there then you can just restore the file,

if it not there. try using searching the run box type in the name of the file and if it's in windows then you can just place it back in your autodesk scene folder.

with the auto backup autodesk automaticaly over-rides the file when you start a new scene file, you should also use the save as + sign this save your file increments but you will need to keep over-writing the increment save which can be annoying but this is a advantage max will not over ride increments  file,

Did you save the file at least once? Was Autobackup set to run? If the answer is "no" to both, then the file is gone. But if either of those were done, you should have a file there somewhere.

You should have a folder listed in the screenshot I attached. See if there is a file in there.

Also worth checking your project folder. Check the 'User Paths' settings. Look at the top of the box for your chosen Project path. The Autoback path is relative to your Project folder. It's not an absolute value, E.g. It moves location depending on your Project folder.

I've seen cases where people have recovered Autoback files from very unusual locations, and sometimes those paths that are hidden from the standard windows search locations.

Hi @Anonymous ,

Just reviving this thread to see if you'd been able to recover your original file, and if there were any other suggestions we could offer to you. Could you please let us know? Thanks!
