3ds max bitmap import gamma correction greyed out

Hi,

2 hours of google and I give up. Why is it greyed out?

Need linear color space for some maps.

Max 2020.

Does this happen with all formats? I noticed it says the Targa is Indexed. Have you saved it out as regular ol' 8 bit color sRGB?

I was able to duplicate your issue by turning off Gamma Correction. Go to Customize > Preferences > Gamma and LUT, and make sure Enable Gamma/LUT Correction is on.
