I installed 3ds max 2022 today and cannot get these settings to stick.
Every time I restart max, Improve Quality Progressively is on and anti-aliasing is off.
I've reset the *.ini file but still not working. Is this a bug?
Running win10 latest

I've had some problems with Windows 10 security settings being 'helpful' sometimes with things like this. (For example custom toolbar location/enabling saving.) If memory serves it has to do with Windows 10 security settings. I occasionally need to run as admin and set things how I want them for them to stick. Then I can run normally and everything is fine. I'm sure there's a setting in Windows I can disable to fix this but I'm not super comfortable doing it because I'm not sure how that affects other things and I hate reinstalling windows/programs. Might be worth a shot.

Same problem here, ¿did you solve it?
Save UI configuration on Exit, cannot Save some preferences.
Can't save Selection/Preview Highlights.
Untilt Drag and Drop, and shows tiled after restart.
Grid and Snap Settings also
let me know if you have some way to solve it.
thanks
Trico
Having the same issue, I save my setup and the next time I open 3ds Max it has reset to default
yeah i am having the same problem can not disable the preview highlight boxes it just comes back on a restart
Do you guys have V-Ray installed?
There is a bug in 2022 that prohibits the changes made in the preferences and settings. To check, please uninstall V-Ray for Max and try again.
The selection preview/highlight issue is fixed this way on our machines. Though we can not render without V-Ray, so something has to be done to avoid this.
I am using V-Ray, will try uninstalling.
Uninstalling V-Ray did the trick, but is no useful solution in my case. Let's hope Autodesk or Chaos Group will quickly release a fix .
I changed my default settings, reinstalled V-Ray and it kept those settings. Still, any new changes are lost next time you load Max, but at least I have my "defaults" to work with.
Interesting. Someone should alert Chaosgroup to the problem, they are pretty quick to fix things.

No idea if this is Chaos related or if Autodesk did a mistake? I have reported the bug to Chaos. Will post here, if I get a reply from their side.
Got a reply from Chaos. They could reproduce the issue and forwarded it to Autodesk since the fix should be added at their side.
I am surprised that
a) Autodesk did not notice the issue while testing their software
b) Chaosgroup did not notice the issue while testing their software
Anyway, I hope this can be fixed. The worst case is that both companies shove around the problem between themselves.
Hi @kossatz and everyone,
Okay, I checked on this issue with our developers, and this is a known issue that should be fixed in an upcoming update. What can happen is, a plugin can trigger a "silent crash" when 3ds Max closes which can prevent the last settings/preferences from being saved. We're in contact with the plugin manufacturers to try to ensure this doesn't happen in the future, so I just wanted to make sure people were aware. Thanks!
same problem here with max2022.0.1 and vray 5.10.2.2
Didn't tested without vray
Another thing regarding Render Setup dialog:
On a dual monitor setup, open the dialog, set at the lef tof right monitor, close it, re-open -> it goes at the right of the left monitor !!
Compact material editor dialog keeps position when closing/reopening
All these settings and dialogs really have to get checked and fixed.
Yeah, it is a nightmare. Right now, Max 2022 is unusable if you are using V-Ray.
I wonder how this passed testing and quality control.
Hello @kossatz , @infoU6BAR , @Kreaction , @daniel and @Diffus3d ,
We've been working with Chaos Group to resolve this issue from both the 3ds Max and the V-Ray side, and hope to have a permanent fix for this shortly. In the meantime, please try the following:
Please let us know if this works!
